Rectal cancer is a dangerous disease (cancer) cells form in the anal tissue. Rectal cancer cells arise in the skin around the anus or on the line along the transition area between the anus and rectum (anal canal).

The cause of anal cancer is not clear, but people who engage in anal sex increased the risk, such as persons who have sexually transmitted infections, particularly human papillomavirus (HPV type 16) and lymphogranuloma venereum.

People with cancer often anal bleeding during bowel movements, pain, and sometimes itching around the anus. Approximately 25% of people with anal cancer sometimes has no symptoms. In general, three types of standard treatment are used:

1. Radiation therapy uses high energy x-rays or other types of radiation to kill cancer cells.
2. Chemotherapy is a cancer treatment that uses drugs to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping cell division.
3. Local surgical resection: A surgical procedure that removed tumor from the anus along with some healthy tissue around it. Local resection may be used if the cancer is small and has not spread.

Abdominoperineal resection: A surgical procedure anus, the rectum, and part of the sigmoid colon removed through the incision made in the abdomen. Doctors cut the tip of the intestines and stomach connect next section, called a stoma, made in the ventral body surface to facilitate the dirt out and put in a bag outside the body. This is called Kolostom.
